Combined January sales of 4,041 units by the Honda and Acura divisions represented a 37% decrease over last year's sales. The Honda Automobile Division reported January sales of 3,467 units, down 39% from last year. The Acura Division reported January sales of 574 units, a 20% decline over last year.
"We entered January after strong year-end sales," said Jerry Chenkin, executive vice president of Honda Canada Inc. "However, as January progressed, our sales pace was lower than anticipated; therefore, we took corrective sales and marketing action toward the end of the month to provide enhanced value for our products. With these added values continuing into February, there has never been a better time to buy a Honda or Acura vehicle than right now."
Honda Canada Inc. has sold more than 3.4 million Honda and Acura passenger cars and light-duty trucks in Canada over the past 37 years. A record high 95 per cent of the Honda and Acura vehicles sold in Canada in January were produced at the company's assembly plants in North America, up 4 per cent from the same month last year.
