Honda's Guangdong plant workers in China on strike in May 2010 following contract and wage disputes.
A Honda parts supplier and Nanhai Honda (a division of Honda in China) have agreed upon a pay raise of one third in the plant. We reported earlier in 2010 that walkouts were going on in the plant, disrupting the operation and the supply for local Honda cars. Honda agreed to raise their monthly wage from 1029 yuan to 1530 yuan, which is about $155 US to $230 US and giving them a 2200 yuan summer bonus. The monthly pay of an assembly line worker in Southern China is now more than 2400 yuan according to Honda. 111 representatives from the plant's 1800 workers took part in the vote. Honda says it is pleased with the agreement.
