Combined March sales of 15,193 units by the Honda and Acura divisions represented a 6% increase over last year's sales. The Honda Automobile Division reported March sales of 13,804 units, up 10% from last year, led by record March Civic sales. The Acura Division reported March sales of 1,389 units, down 24% over last year.
"Despite the tragic events in Japan this past month, our sales have not been impacted thus far," said Jerry Chenkin, executive vice president of Honda Canada Inc. "Our dealerships remain fully stocked with fun-to-drive and innovative Honda and Acura products for the Canadian consumer. However, we do continue to monitor our sales and production situations on a daily basis.
"As expected, we saw a strong sales surge of Civic in the month of March. Canadians continue to recognize the value and DQR of the best-selling passenger vehicle in Canada, surpassing the previous record by over 900 units. With gas prices continuing to rise, consumers also appreciate the high fuel efficiency of our entire Civic line-up," added Mr. Chenkin. "We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the all-new Canadian-built 2012 Civic coming in late April."
