Honda and Acura are expanding an old recall from 2008 to include an additional 833 000 cars, in total 1.6 million cars have been recalled for an airbag issue. The latest recall covers vehicles that potentially had faulty Honda parts installed following a collision. Due to the fact that Honda cannot properly identify which cars had faulty parts, Honda must recall the entire batch. Dangerous airbag inflators are the cause as in the case of an accident, airbags can deploy with too much pressure causing increased rates of injury and death.
Cars included in the recall are certain 2001 and 2002 Honda Civics and Accords, the 2002 Odyssey, the 2003 CR-V and 2002-2003 Acura CL/TL cars. It is believed only 2 430 vehicles contain the faulty parts.
Recall notices will be released later this month via mail.
