This red magnet has a cloth between the red plastic pieces, and this has several uses... no scratches, absorbs oil, is replaceable, and can be used to easily see when you last changed the oil. Brilliant little device, and it makes sense when I learned that Chuck was the son of a big 3 engineer, and he too became a mechanical engineer. 
Nice gauges huh? The two smaller one are inside pieces of yacht railing!
