Dozens of Marysville residents would never think that the Japan earthquake would hit home for them. But it did. And hard. Not only has it drastically cut down on the local plant's output, which in turn affects production rates and workers, but local businesses are seeing the direct impact of reduced paychecks. This trickle down effects is worrying the town who heavily relies on Honda's success and its workers to build a strong local community.
Many local businesses including the local Ice Cream shop have already seen their revenue, which relies heavily on the spending of Honda plant workers, cut by up to 70%. Others say their shops are down 40-50% since the Japanese earthquake fiasco began.
For now, Honda plant workers can work half a day OR opt to work 4 hours on special projects or just opt out to take vacation time. How long these changes are going to be in effect for was not disclosed by Honda.
