Stop if you've heard this one before, woman is given a 60's race car, she stores it for 30's years while she works at a Sears warehouse (after losing the car she suicides), because her dad gave her the car, because he was a bodyguard, to a music legend who murdered a woman.(Phil Spector) Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe CSX 2287's story

If you've got unwanted cobwebs in your brain, it's time to get them blown out... read about the '67 GT350 abandoned in a body shop, along with a Mangusta

An R model '65 Shelby Gt 350 Mustang has been bouncing from auction to auction and has had bids from 1 million, down to $475,000 and isn't selling. The owner must have wasted a lot of money on auction house fees, and isn't through bleeding money in hopes of selling at a profit. It's going up at auction again this August at Russo and Steele, http://www.russoandsteele.com/press_release.html?prid=97
Car #530.... one of only 35 produced (1 of 25 still remaining) was shipped to Lima Peru on 7/29/66 and raced extensively on the South American circuit. It was the South American Champion in it's class and the Peruvian National Champion in the late 60's.
Raced by purchaser Bratzo Vicich, the car was the South American Class Champion during the late 1960s as well as the Peruvian National Champion as late as 1973. A second South American owned the car and ran it actively until 1980. Returning to the United States in 1984 in the care of George Stauffer, the car has had numerous American owners since and was campaigned with the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association with whom it has a permanent medallion as well as other well-known sanctioning bodies. Restored not long ago by Kurt Vogt of Cobra Automotive and in a museum for a number of years
image from http://vintageperformance-autosales.com/gt350r.html who for an unknown reason is trying to sell the car before the auction

This is not verifiable, but a Shelby GT 350 #6s966 may have been pulled out of a Kansas garage after 30+ years

the original story http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2011/apr/02/rare-1966-shelby-gt350-fastback-found-garage-lawre but Jalopnik has the story http://jalopnik.com/#!5787316/how-a-66-shelby-gt350-was-hidden-in-trash-for-26-years as March 30th 2011 and writes that it's a Hertz rent a racer GT 350 H, and the Leake Auction website has no story to go with the photo gallery of the GT 350 that does not have an H after the GT 350.
The CNN video news clip never mentions Hertz. http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2011/04/06/dnt.rare.nustang.found.kctv?hpt=T2
Shelby Forums says that this will be written up in the Spring 2011 issue of the Shelby American http://www.shelbyforums.com/forums/1965-1970-shelby-mustang-gt350-gt500/13464-6s966-found-shed.html

I learned about this story from Robert L and his link was to the Kansas City Star article: http://www.kansascity.com/2011/04/09/2789114/rare-car-found-hidden-beneath.html
The SAAC forum addresses this story http://saacforum.com/index.php?topic=12348.0 and in the thread they state it was orignally a GT 350 H red and gold, but now has a replacement engine as well as a repaint
If anyone knows more about this, or has read the spring 2011 Shelby American, please drop me an email and add anything you can to this story
Thanks to Chad Lawhorn the story writer from the Lawrence Journal for sending me the link to the original article!

The Shelby GT 350 S, first non white GT 350, it was the Paxton prototype. By the time production would have started the idea changed to an option

Click on the image for the full size to read the writing, but basically it's a publicity-press release shot in the event that the GT 350 S were put into production, like the GT 350 H (Hertz rent a racer program)

Shelby Comet. Never heard of that, have you? Did you hear of the Shelby Europa? 14 made

There are eight survivors, three of were in Sweden, then Norway, then to Finland.
Well, so was there a special European-Shelby prototype, GT250, a 1971 Mercury Comet that Claude supplied with a GT40 289 block and heads, that gave the car more than 350 horsepower. It was a couple of years as Claude's own daily driver before being resold.

Shelby De Mexico, I learned of them just now, I never heard of Shelby Mavericks either, but here is the scoop (and a reminder about the Shelby Europa)

Ford Motor Company, S.A, the Mexican branch of the corporation, had begun producing Mustang hardtops During 1966, Velazquez became a Shelby parts dealer, and the victories provided great promotion for Shelby aftermarket parts for those Mustangs. In 1967, Velazquez formed a friendship and partnership with Carroll Shelby. Their company Shelby de Mexico, would create modified Mustangs to be marketed through Ford of Mexico dealerships.
The Shelby de Mexico models of 1967 and 1968 were powered by 289ci engines and looked nearly identical to their 1967 and 1968 stateside namesakes. Production totaled 169 units in 1967 and 203 units in 1968.
The 306 Shelbys produced in 1969 were based on 302hp powered Mustang hardtops, but had fiberglass roofline extensions that created a Fastback look. Their front sheetmetal was near-stock Mustang, but the slightly bulged hoods were fiberglass, their deck lids had spoilers, and the taillights were the 1965 Thunderbird units used by US production 1968 and 1969 Shelbys. Several of the 1969 Shelby de Mexico GT-350s have been brought into the United States during recent years, and two have been featured in Mustang Monthly and other enthusiast magazines.
During those years, Shelby de Mexico campaigned Mustang race cars throughout Mexico , including two Shelby-built 1966 and 1967 Group 2 hardtops. Much advice was received from Al Dowd, Phil Remington, and Lew Spencer at Shelby American, and Carrol! Shelby made a point of attending several races in Mexico . The company created two race cars in 1969 and only one in 1970. Only one of those race-specific models is known to survive.
Shelby de Mexico, during the 1971 model year, built approximately 200 Shelby Mustang GT-351s (Windsor engines) and 300 Shelby Mavericks powered by 302hp engines.

The authoritative write up is from Bob McClurg who made some trips to Mexico and almost bought one, but while he was waiting for delivery, it all went up in smoke, the car and his contact in Mexico disappeared. He first covered the Shelby in Mustang Illustrated February 1991 which is online right here: http://www.darkhorseracing.net/south_of_the_boarder.htm and refreshed with a new look in this months Muscle car

Dean Jeffries, pinstriper and custom car bulder, Oakland Roadster Show winner
0 comments Posted by st at 5:48 PMJames Dean was one of his early customers, and Jeffries painted "Little Bastard" on the Porsche 550 Spyder that Dean owned.
Agajanian took Jeffries to the 1952 Indy 500, Mobil Oil, noticing his unusual painting and pin striping style, hired him in the following years to paint any of the Indy race cars. It was free to the teams and Mobil got their logo somewhere on the car. Jeffries would paint and pin stripe the cars and helmets of race car drivers like Jim Rathmann, Parnelli Jones, and A. J. Foyt, and become Foyt's paint and body man.
After that, in 1962, he worked for famous race car designer and builder Carroll Shelby on the Cobra.
Dean's show car, Mantaray, first appeared at the 1964 Oakland Roadster Show where it won the Tournament of Fame First Prize. The smallblock Ford engine & 4-speed trans came directly from Shelby as partial payment for work Jeffries had done and to this day that Cobra engine has just a few miles on it.

Barnfind Shelby AC Cobra, and a one owner, less than 7.4 thou miles '62 Benz 300SL roadster getting auctioned by Gooding Jan 21st
0 comments Posted by st at 11:12 AM Said to be the only unrestored Cobra in blue and red livery, the '64 AAC Cobra spent 33 years in "storage" yet comes off as surprisingly lustworthy in spite of that. It began life as Carroll Shelby's promo car at SoCal racing venues, was pulled from the deeep barn sleep to do the 2010 Pebble Beach

Eventually there are only two Cobras (a Willment Coupe and the HEM-6) at the start and two Ferraris - two LMs: Maranello's for Graham Hill and Piper's.
October 21, 1964 - This is the third year that British drivers show at the Daily Rand Nine Hours of Kyalami. Willment Cobra Daytona Coupe places 5th

Hear that screaming? Hear the cry of outrage? Yup, they just looked at this GT500 Shelby Mustang Cobra on a junkyard heap of junk cars. The point is
